Brit Cardarelli, the founder of Sticks and Stripes Studio began her career as a costume designer and wardrobe stylist for film, television and theater. After years in the entertainment industry, she became a Head Dress Designer, a role that might explain why her critters are often dressed to the nines. Her creative venture, Sticks and Stripes later evolved into textile design, focusing on printing artwork onto bulk fabric.

While working in the fashion industry, a story kept swirling in her mind, and it took root. That idea blossomed into Naturehood: The Adventures of Treeann, her debut children’s book. From that moment, her path as a children’s book illustrator was paved, and she’s been bringing stories to life ever since.

Sticks and Stripes is a whimsical world brimming with lively parades of curious characters. These humanly, furry, feathery, and finned friends are beloved by both children and adults. You’ll find them brightening nurseries, decorating walls, perched on bookshelves, or bringing joy on apparel and stationery, traveling in envelope airplanes to deliver heartfelt messages.

Brit’s handcrafted illustrations are inspired by her upbringing in the countryside of Illinois, her work is deeply rooted in the natural world. The sprawling meadows and open fields of her childhood continue to inspire her botanical and prairie-infused art. Her watercolor paintings celebrate the beauty of seasons, stories and spirituality- creating timeless pieces that resonate with a sense of celebration.

For Brit, celebration isn’t limited to grand parties— it’s found in small moments, like lighting a candle on an ordinary weeknight. This philosophy is woven into her art, reminding us to find joy and reverence in the everyday.

When she’s not creating, Brit loves adventuring outdoors with her son and gathering pieces of woodland treasures to make “sticktivities” (which is designing with elements found in the wilderness)— Followed by family time spent around a fire, wrapped in a quilt, while sipping tea.
